Fantastic Flax Fibre

April 30,2013

Flaxseed is incredibly nutritious and has been used for thousands of years - the ancient Egyptians used flaxseed as both food and medicine.

Fibre is incredibly important for keeping your body healthy. Our Organic Flaxseed Fibre works as a great body-balancer:

  • Detoxifies Hormones
  • Balances Blood Sugar
  • Helps to Maintain a Healthy Heart

Our organically grown flaxseed is carefully pressed and the husks are then milled into a ‘flour’ to make our exceptional quality Flax Fibre.

Flax fibre is just what it says; a complete fibre that helps your body to work well to get rid of toxins and move food waste through your system efficiently. It’ll really help keep everything nice and regular.

It’s packed with high-quality, digestible protein (33%), so you can make it an important, gluten-free addition to a healthy diet with a great nutty flavour.

It is a good source of essential fatty acids , these are important for building healthy cells in your body.

Vitamin E helps to fight free radicals. These nutrients play a powerful role in the health of your nervous and reproductive systems.

Flax Fibre can easily be included into your daily meals whether it’s sprinkled on breakfast cereal, yogurt, fruit and steamed veggies or stirred into smoothies, soups and sauces.

Naturally Good for You

Mega-Omega body boost: Our Organic Flax fibre is the richest known source of lignans, plant compounds which help to restore immunity and improve hormonal balance. Flaxseed is also a good source of pure protein and precious Omega 3, essential fatty acids for building healthy cells.

Our Organic Flax Fibre provides a great balance of soluble and insoluble fibre. It’s an easy way to help remove toxins from your body and can help lower cholesterol. Flax fibre can naturally help alleviate symptoms of PMS and menopause. It improves liver function and helps to regulate bowel movements – good for treating diarrhoea and constipation when taken with plenty of water.

There are lots of great reasons to bring Flax Fibre into your family life, and it’s a really easy addition to make. Here’s why:

Blood Sugar Balance
Good levels of soluble and insoluble fibres help to ensure that glucose is released steadily into the bloodstream. This is particularly important in cases of hypoglycaemia, metabolic syndrome and diabetes, but our Flax Fibre is also really good at leveling out those sugar rush ups and downs. As a food with a low glycaemic load (GL), Flax Fibre helps your body to avoid triggering excessive insulin release and a subsequent “sugar low”.

Heart Health
A good intake of Flax Fibre can help to improve blood cholesterol levels. We all know that high cholesterol is bad because it is a factor in cardiovascular problems. Flax Fibre works to trap fat and glucose and it’s then swept out of the body.

[WHAT RESEARCH?]Research shows that Flax Fibre can also help to protect against high
blood pressure and angina. It’s essential fatty acids help to thin the blood, reducing the chance of blood clots forming.

Hormone Balance
Flax is the richest known source of lignans, plant compounds which are mildly oestrogenic. This gentle property can help your body keep a better hormonal balance which is so vital for prostate and breast health: it may also help to alleviate symptoms of PMS and menopause.

Flax Fibre also supports reproductive health by sweeping the residues of hormonal breakdown out of your body.

Detox
Nutritionists say that many disease conditions start in the colon. Our Flax Fibre is highly effective in escorting waste and toxins from the body, keeping your colon happy and healthy. It can also support your liver function and can be used to treat both diarrhoea and constipation, reducing the risk of bowel disease and inflammatory bowel conditions.

FLAX IN THE NEWS:

Help Prevent Diabetes
Recent studies are showing lignans to be effective in lowering the onset of Type 1 and 2 diabetes.

Help Reduce Risk of Breast Cancer
Emerging evidence by Clinical Cancer Research suggests that a diet rich in lignans may reduce the risk of breast cancer after menopause by almost 30 per cent.

WHERE DOES GREEN BAY HARVEST ORGANIC FLAX FIBRE COME FROM?

Flaxseed comes from the flax plant which is a tall, slender plant with blue flowers. Our Flax Fibre is produced in the remote and unpolluted South Canterbury region of New Zealand. After harvest the Flax Seeds are cold-pressed then milled.

Where it comes from really does matter
Flax is grown and harvested in many different locations around the world but New Zealand’s unique combination of alpine and maritime climates produces a flaxseed like no other. Hot days and cool nights during the seed-ripening phase give the flax plants extra surplus energy to store in the seed as the Omega-3 ALA.

A research project at Lincoln University suggested that on average the oil content in our flax is 5% higher in ALA than flax from other growing regions around the world.
